Attraction Marketing – The Marketer Must Be Attractive

It’s true that attraction marketing includes the provision of a gift — something that has value.

Giving value may take the form of very useful information provided through a free webinar or e-book. However, unless the valued gift is coupled with an attractive giver, the overall home business marketing effort will not be effective. A key element in attraction marketing, then, is being an attractive giver.

Let’s face it, home business owners will have many direct contacts with prospects and customers.  This is true whether the marketing is largely done online or offline.  Several qualities make a marketer attractive. They include:

  • Friendliness
  • Credibility
  • Positive attitude

Friendliness Attracts. Being friendly encompasses quite a bit. Consider the following comparisons.

  • If you listen to me, I’m attracted. If you talk all the time, I’m repelled.
  • If you converse with me, I’m attracted. If you talk at me, I’m repelled.
  • If you are patient with me, I’m attracted. If you are impatient with me, I’m repelled.
  • If you treat me like an equal, I’m attracted. If you treat me like a child, I’m repelled.
  • If you consult with me, I’m attracted. If you dictate to me, I’m repelled.
  • If you talk me up to others behind my back, I’m attracted. If you criticize me to others behind my back, I’m repelled.
  • If you take time to help with my work, I’m attracted. If you have time only for your own work, I’m repelled.
  • If you are interested in my problems, I’m attracted. If you push your agenda, I’m repelled.
  • If you give me credit, I’m attracted. If you take credit, I’m repelled.
  • If you accept responsibility, I’m attracted. If you blame others, I’m repelled.
  • If you respect my privacy and space, I’m attracted. If you invade my privacy and space, I’m repelled.

Credibility Attracts. Can I believe you? Can I trust you? Can you prove you know what you are doing or saying? Different types of home business marketers can establish credibility in different ways.

For example, if you have an independent business with your own product or service, here are some ways to establish credibility-

  • Point to long experience (this may long precede the opening of your business).
  • Point to an academic degree.
  • Point to certification or licensing where applicable.
  • Point to published articles or guest speaking.
  • Provide a list of happy customers and / or testimonials.
  • Have a professional looking online presence.
  • If you are just getting started with little experience with the product or service, point to the impeccable credibility of a third party. Honesty can go a long way. No one likes a made up answer. It’s better to say that you will need to look up the answer to be absolutely accurate.

If you are a network marketer, talk about your successes. This might be lives you have touched, or the number of people in your downline. (Be careful to stay within the bounds of what is legally permissible, for example, with respect to income claims.) If your network marketing experience is limited, you can-

  • Point to the credibility of your upline leaders.
  • Point to the credibility of your mentor or coach.
  • Point to other network marketing leaders who are saying the same thing that you are.
  • Honesty and transparency go a long way as well. Incidentally, this is one reason that it is important to provide a good photograph of yourself in online profile pages and to use your real name, not a “screen name.”

A Positive Attitude Attracts. For example:

  • If you are cheerful, I’m attracted. If you are gloomy, I’m repelled.
  • If you find the good and beautiful, I’m attracted. If you are critical of everything, I’m repelled.
  • If you expect success, I’m attracted. If you expect failure, I’m repelled.
  • If you are open-minded, I’m attracted. If you are narrow-minded, I’m repelled.
  • If you reflect “it can work” thinking, I’m attracted. If you reflect “it will never work” thinking, I’m repelled.
  • Finally, if you’re genuine positive attitude is reflected by the above qualities, I will be attracted, but if you parrot and preach positive thinking slogans constantly, I will probably be repelled.

The one thing about attraction marketing for the home business entrepreneur that trumps everything else is the demonstration of a genuine offer to help. Giving something of value makes a considerable difference, but only when that is coupled with the genuine attractiveness of the marketer.
