What Should Be Your First Step When Starting Internet Marketing?
The answer is that it depends where you are on the Internet marketing learning curve and what you’re most comfortable doing.
I’m assuming that you have online access and are reasonably comfortable on the Web. I’m also assuming that you have a brand, book or business that you want to promote even if you don’t yet have a Web site.
(Note that the business can be a brick-and-mortar business or an online business.)
Now, are you on any social media (social networking) sites such as Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn? If not, it’s a good idea to start participating in at least one or two of these sites in order to start forming relationships.
Next, it would be a good idea to get a Web site that includes the capability to have a blog on that site. Blogging enables you to share valuable free content with your target markets, while the fresh content added to your Web site helps the search engines find the site.
If you like to write and have lots of information to share about your brand, book or business, you can add in article marketing – submitting articles you’ve written to free article directories on the Web such as ezinearticles.com.
Or if you love to use your video camera, you can make short videos about your brand, book or business and upload these videos to video-sharing sites such as YouTube.
Maybe you like speaking about your brand, book or business. You can record audio talks and put these recordings on your Web site.
You can read blogs in related fields and leave insightful comments on these blogs along with the URL to your Web site or Twitter profile or YouTube video.
And the above are only some of the major opportunities for marketing on the Web.
Obviously you don’t have to do everything at once. First do the Internet marketing steps that feel most comfortable to you; then expand into new arenas.
And continue to learn as much as you can about Internet marketing strategies – there are new opportunities launched every day.
